Dan and Gerry are correct: It depends on what software you're using. Mastercam, for example, provides it's own programming language for post editing similar to any other programming language, called MP.
Other software packages don't allow you to modify your posts at all. If you have a specific software in mind, we might be able to steer you in the right direction.
