That is exactly how mine works, the spring forces the piston back into the cylinder.
SEEN HERE in the first picture, the piston on the left has the spring on it.
And, the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder I remember from a 3/4 ton Chevy truck I had back in the 80's is where I got the idea from to do this on my X2.
