take a close look at the mother board around where the keyboard plugs in. Typically there is a ni-cad battery there. I believe it may be leaking out its electrolyte. This will affect the operation of the keyboard and any switches running on 12 VDC. Also the CMOS may be failing you, thus affecting hard drive access.
