From the Xylotex Website:
The cables are pre-wired for bipolar-parallel at the stepper end. Although when run at 2.5A/phase (Xylotex 3 axis max. current rating), you will not be getting the full 116 oz.-in. of torque available from the motors, you will get much better high speed performance than if run in series winding mode (with full torque). These motors, when coupled with the Xylotex 2.5A/phase drive, a Vref setting of 3.45V to 3.60V, 1/8th step microstepping, and a 24VDC to 30VDC power supply will give good performance on a Sherline (or small homebrew/retrofit) sized machine. Because the Xylotex drive will be running at/near its' maximum with this setting, a cooling fan is required to keep the Xylotex drive heatsinks cool. |
You won't hurt the drive setting the vref wrong, but you can damage the motors if the current is too high.
