Hi Simon, That sounds pretty expensive. We have the same problem. Adelaide is a backwater town when it comes to buying bits locally. Try the McJing site for your prices.
We bought some bits from a USA supplier last year ( Routerbits.com ) the prices were very competitive, shipping was reasonable and the bits arrived in one week.
