There is no overhang if I use the drilled and tapped holes to mount along X axis. If mounted on the Y axis I generally use the T slot furthest away from collumn and it is good to go, plenty of clearance. The overhang is then towards my enclosure doors, with the vise screw pointing right at me. Most of the time tho it is mounted using the d&t holes.
