The 20 deg. angle spur gear/rack takes a heavier load than the 14.5
Remember on a horizontally controlled axis, especially if there is minimum side thrust as in Plasma cutting, the maxim torque required is not at rest or at final travel speed , but at acceleration & deceleration (inertia calculation) for very good design information, check out this site and if you get their free library of catalogue, half of them is dedicated to Engineering topics.

BTW are you driving both sides of the gantry? At that weight you may need to.
