How old is your fathers machine?
Some of the earlier machines came with Fanuc spindle drive units on them, so getting them fixed is a job for a Fanuc Man.
Looking in the error manual for OSP5020L / OSP500L-G machines the explanation for a VAC Inverter bridge short circuit alarm (1112 in this book) says the following:
Index: Spindle
Character-String: None
Code: None
Probable Faulty Location: VAC Power Unit
Measures to Take: 1) Set the three-phase breaker of the machine once to OFF position and then set it to the ON position again.
2) Replace the VAC power unit.
Now I would be guessing that he would have already tried cycling the power on the machine in the first instance... so that really only leaves the second option.
Just had a look in a OSP7000L/OSP700L book... sod all information about the alarm in that book!Just tells you the same information as the alarm message states! Greaaat! Love these alarm books at times

It states the probable Faulty Location as being: VAC drive unit or transistor.
So now you know as much as the rest of us! (Sod all)
Time to call the Tech Heads.

Brian.
