Still working on the header problem?
Just for conversation sake, if I remember right, you wanted a 5/16" UNC thread, probably for aluminum heads where you don't want to be screwing bolts in and out, so you naturally use studs on a true racing app... Right?
But then you wanted a 5/16" UNF so that you could use a 12 point nut so that you wouldn't have clearance issues with the primary tubes? If memory serves me?
So, if I remember right, problem is you need a stud with enough clearance on the mounting side that the fastner clears the primary tubes of a quality header... Forgive me if I'm wrong!
If the above is all true, what I would do is a tear out test of a 5/16" UNC to 1/4" UNF, the 5/16" side threaded into aluminum, the 1/4" side secured with a standard 6 side nut, see if the aluminum fails before the stud fails at room temps... But that's if a 1/4" 6 side nut would clear the primaries, and would require a washer that is ground to clear the primaries.
But, I would totally agree, even if the aluminum would tear out before the stud would fail, if you were trying to market a new product to solve a timely problem, it would be a hard sale to the general public.
Just a thought, if nothing else, a glorified bump.
