A small update. I've installed the SSR and hooked its ouput contact between the 115V supply and the hot terminal of the new outlet.
I'm thinking on how to implement the control right now. I have the original VFD (which matches a Minarik VFD05-D230-PCM) and have been studying its controls. Its Common terminal (E1) is +5V, and to turn on the spindle the Enable terminal (E2) is connected to Common. This is done by the Machine Control Board whose terminal J1-3 is connected to E2 and J1-4,5 is connected to E1.
MCB is just supplying a contact closure to the VFD, which I verified by unhooking the connecting wires and putting an ohmmeter between J1-3 and J1-4 while I "started" and "stopped" the spindle. The first time the spindle is started, the contactor supplying AC to the VFD also pulls in and stays pulled in until I open the spindle door but that is irrelevant for the Proxxon.
I need to use the (I assume) SSR on the MCB to connect E1 and E2 on the VFD for the primary spindle as now, or connect the bottom end of the coil on my new SSR to ground (connecting the top end of the coil to +5V from somewhere) for the Proxxon. I think I need a DPDT (center-off for safety) to do this. I'm waiting while I think it through (and looking for convenient +5V and ground on the MCB)
