Nice work on the VSD-E, Xerxes!
I've used the "hard-stop" homing on the EPOS-line of intelligent servo drives from Maxon. It worked very well, I just set the limit to ~20% more than what it took to move the axis at the homing speed. This was on a rather small "clean" machine though. Just don't try hard-stop and Index ;-)
