I spend more than 5,000.00 a year on tooling (about 40 tools)even with the grinder. At over $100.00 each it don't take long to spend 5 grand. Unless you arn't very busy. The great thing about having an "In House Grinder" is you can make your own specialized tooling. For instance...we put "sometimes" a reverse taper on the OD of the tool of .0010 to .0005 this way it takes care of tool preasure and wear. Like doing keyways when you want the side walls to be perfectly straight. Sending them out for resharping is out of the question as they take off too much and sometimes they get damaged in shipping and they basically charge too much. |
