Ideally, you'd want much higher amperage motors. Also, the higher inductance will limit your top speed. Those art 8.6V, you'd probably like to be in the 2V to 5V range. What kind of drivers are you using?
The 1/2" acme is not a good choice for much over 4ft. It's just not strong enough, and it will probably whip badly at any decent rpm. A much better choice for that size machine might be rack and pinion.
