Hmm.... I think I'd prefer to describe it this. A PtoP CNC router is the offspring of a PtoP drilling machine - a multi-headed CNC drilling machine designed to drill cabinet sides (32mm system) quickly. I think the point-to-point monniker came about because the drilling points are described as X/Y co-ordinate and depth of hole and the machine moved from "point to point" to drill dowel holes, screw holes, hinge pockets. Later machine makers started to add one then more router spindles and saw heads in order that the machines could profile edges of stock and saw grooves for cabinet backs.
