i have 2 of those machines a dm4400 and a dm4000, on one time the spindle would not turn because the brushes were gone and i mean really gone...so have a look at the brushes there is 4 of it on top of the motor...

second topo have a look at the spindle drive if there is voltage going to the motor if so check the wiring to the motor..

third topo look if there is an error light on top left of the spindle drive (ground fault) there is a fuse inside that could be blown up...it is a 10 amps...fuse..

i am now trying to upgrade one machine with a mach3 system complete with new drive so if anybody knows about doing it .....help me
