Has anyone any PCs hardware recommendations for opening point clouds as I have problems opening point clouds over 64 meg in size with a Athlon 1800 and 512 meg of ram?????
Get as much RAM as you can. A 64MB text file is huge.

I have had really need to be able to open at least 500 mg files.
I had 512 meg of ram and I can open the file but I can not do anything with it
a 500 meg file.
I'd get at least 3 Gigs of RAM, but I think 32 bit software can only use 2Gigs. The extra Gig will cover the Windows overhead and should allow your app the full 2 Gigs. But you might still have trouble.

It is very hard to find 1 gig reliable ram sticks.
I think the maximium amount of ram winxp excepts is 4 gig.
Whats the largest file you can process
I don't know, but I just got a new PC with 4 Gigs of RAM. XP shows only 3 Gigs, and applications show only 2 available.

Where do you get your point clouds from? How are they generated?
My system has a smart reduction filter which gets rid of repetitive point data
