    Point cloud file

Is your point cloud file just a plain XYZ ascii text file?
If so have you tried something like MS word?

Get as much RAM as you can. A 64MB text file is huge.

I'd get at least 3 Gigs of RAM, but I think 32 bit software can only use 2Gigs. The extra Gig will cover the Windows overhead and should allow your app the full 2 Gigs. But you might still have trouble.

It is very hard to find 1 gig reliable ram sticks.

I think the maximium amount of ram winxp excepts is 4 gig.

Whats the largest file you can process

I don't know, but I just got a new PC with 4 Gigs of RAM. XP shows only 3 Gigs, and applications show only 2 available.

Where do you get your point clouds from? How are they generated?

My system has a smart reduction filter which gets rid of repetitive point data
