Might as well start a separate thread for this because my other thread has skewed onto this topic. Hoss's G0704 Think it qualifies as a benchtop machine and it IS cnc'ed so.... ![]() I just got my kit parts from MakerFarm.com to build a Reprap Prusa 3D Printer. ![]() Have some other parts on the way, electronics, steppers, steel rods and 3mm ABS and PLA filament. I have $600 wrapped up but that includes some upgrades and 3mm filament. More details later. Also have a kit from SeeMeCNC.com that uses Mach 3 to run it. ![]() It's a bit cheaper to build if you already have a licensed copy of Mach 3, even more so if like me you already have the drivers, i.e. chinese boards, g540, xylotex, etc. pretty much anything to run 4 nema 17 steppers. I ordered the H1 Parts and Hardware Only Kit for $149. The complete kit is only $351 (+$148 for Mach 3 if needed) I'll post more as the parts come in. Hoss

I just got my extruder and bed heaters up and working, waiting on glass for the heated bed. MK6 hot end but will probably mod it before using since the technology changes overnight. I cant wait to see some of your solutions! Especially using machine tools to help out.

I've made a few mod to my TOM, first was a nice spool feed for the plastic Image of TOM printable spindle for 5lb spools - Thingiverse the second was a new driver, had a real problem with the filament stripping when the print I was working on need to do a lot of reversals (damn near everything LOL) Image of Mk6 extruder drive for 1.75mm filament - Thingiverse made a huge improvement, a bonus is it's easier to change color now. Thingiverse is a great resource for projects and ideas, there are a lot of sharp people working with these things

I have been folowing the blog of someone that has built themselves an incredible high quality SLA machine that doesn't look beyond the abilities of the many capable do it yourself-ers on this board. I'll be happy to share some links here in a moment but first I have to get my first post out of the way or the board wont let me post any web addresses.

Here we are! Unfortunately, the author of the blog and the machines designer seems to have dropped off the face of the earth shortly after completing the software he designed for the machine. 3D Printer You can follow the progress of someone who has made a very similar machine, as well as posted a bit more information about the materials that they used and how they did it here: 3 D L P rint I believe both just use a DLP projector to harden photo reactive resin in vat one 2d cross section at a time. It's a technique that creates a very high resolution part and it's the process used by most professional 3d printers. If you are feeling adventurous and want something in the future that will give you much finer detail than an extruder can you may want look into building one of these.
