Jbo,
I am looking at machining up my own linear bearings for X any Y axis's. To begin with I will only do the X axis bearings and have decided that I need 2 pieces at 250 mm long ( total 500 mm). Each bearing will incorporate six 22 mm deep groove ball bearings that will run on 1 inch dia bar.
Everything looks ok on paper I just need to get it up on the mill and start taking off metal. And course the first ones will only be prototypes.
I have been looking at a website
www.buildyouridea.com and liked his homemade cast linear bearings,( called HBLB homebrew linear bearings). As I have no interest (or skills) in casting, I will give it a go from solid round bar.
Ben, thanks for any helpful info in this regard.
