I tried another stab at this yesterday. The picture is just a portrait of my wife and me. This time, I used some scrap Corian from a countertop place. The speckles didn't seem so pronounced before cutting but they are quite evident afterwards. I'll have to stick with more solid colors for future projects.
Material is 5" x 7" x .5" Corian. Color unknown. I pocketed out 3/8" deep so there was about 1/8" material left but kept the "frame" so clamping would be easier. After pocketing, rougher was 1/8" ball endmill and the finisher was the good ole' 3/64" ball endmill. I don't know how long the finish pass took because I went to bed and let the machine finish.
The PhotoVCarve software is great. Creating the toolpaths takes just a few minutes and the results really are cool. |
