Ok so heres what happened, speed drive was a complete cycle off- There is a chain in there that it pulls on- mine simply got wound up the wrong way and that was inverting everything.
Easy fix, just had to run the speed all the way up like 720 degrees on the gauge and now everything is normal.
FWIW my machine doesn't have spindle control of any type- just simple start / stop. Up and down speed must be done manually. I'd really like to add some spindle control at some point, but that would require adding a spindle encoder (to get rpm as you say) and upgrading my spindle motor control from reversing contactors to an inverter.
Anyways that seems to have me up and running again
