Hi Larry,
I have had a DM45 since December last year. I spent about 6 months looking for a machine of this sort of size and the DM 45 was the only one I could find. Basically it is a Chinese built machine which has been reworked and fitted with Ajax CNC Kit. Whilst being a relatively small machine it is quite rigid for its size. I have machined hardened steel, and as long as I took light cuts it was fairly happy doing it.

The Intercon software, which it uses to generate the G code, is quick and easy to use once you get used to it. I found it easy to pick up apart from one or two things which took a little time to get my head round.

It is worth getting the fixture probing, tool setting, DXF import, and CSR extras, they make life so much easier and are worth every dollar.

I did have an encoder go down after about a month of use (one of those things), however I was very impressed with the response from Ajax, 36 hours after talking to them I had a new encoder. (I live in the UK). I also had a problem with backlash on the x-axis due to the grub screw on one of the pulleys coming loose and the poor fit of the key. I made a new key and refitted it and was back in action.

Down side, my biggest gripe is the noise from the spindle motor/gear train at high spindle speeds. This is the biggest problem that with the machine and is something Ajax should address.

All in all I would say that it is good value for money, and a capable machine as long as you remember its size.
