I was one of the first to buy one of these. I use a brass hammer I made for striking the drawbar, and I lock the Z-axis gib before striking the drawbar, so there is minimal impact on the Z-axis ways. That's the little angled handle directly behind the three handled quill feed, between the gib adjusting screws.
I only back the drawbar out about 1/8" so there is maximum thread engagement. Solid arbors have no flex, like collets, so they don't need as much drawbar tightening as collets... not your doing on this issue. But solid arbors tend to hang in there tighter, requiring a little more knudge.
You might also try light taps with a brass drift on opposite sides of the arbor where it exits the spindle... not enough to distort any metal or damage bearings. That may help jar it loose. |
